A-Levels in London: Positive Outcome

07/01/2013

063It has been quite a while since my last post. After more than 2 years we are starting to settle in. Rian passed his IGCSE exam with a couple of B’s and C’s. That was in July 2011. As an A-student he was not too happy with these results, but I kept on reminding him that he did it on his own with no outside help.

Leyton Sixth Form college, where he applied to do his A-levels, weren’t all that positive about his abilities (they obviously didn’t know him like I did) and were reluctant to allow him to follow the A-level program instead of the B-Tech. We eventually managed to convince them to give him a chance. I was never concerned as I knew how determined he was to get good grades.

With the help of great teachers he quickly became one of the outstanding students at the College. He had the opportunity to attend the Villiers Trust program, various programs at Cambridge University and also some master classes at Queen Mary’s. His AS-level results looked good and with predicted grades of 2 A* and 2 A’s he started his university applications.

While his application to Cambridge University wasn’t successful I am still so proud of him that he was invited for an interview. He already has offers from York and Bath and still has to do an interview at Imperial. All these are excellent universities and I thank God for all the good things that have been bestowed upon us since our arrival in the UK.
